Have you had a chance to travel using the gummi ships yet? The ships in part are powered by positive thoughts, therefore when they try to breach the darkness the machines inevitably come to a grinding halt. The negative readouts of the darkness are great enough to counteract the passengers thoughts.

Nox Aeterna on the other hand runs on negative thoughts... and should draw strength from that atmosphere.
