[It's sometime in the evening and Mai is sitting on a bed her hair loose again. She's got a comb which she bought with her money and she's brushing at at her hair. Even the red robe she's wearing was purchased with her own money. In comparison to how she has been in a few days, she's in a better mood though her eyes are still puffy. Someone still cries in the quiet afternoons.]

My search ended. I was looking for one job and I ended up with two. [While she's brushing there's a very enthusiastic Griever playing with the end strands of her hair. She doesn't seem to mind it, in fact, she mocks it by waving it out of her reach.] It's actually a little bit satisfying. Not work but the end product.

Ami, if you have time. Would you pay me a visit? My hair finally gave through and I can't work with this.

[And there's a noise somewhere off camera that even the Griever perked those long ears in curiosity. Her master was home.]

Well go on, you're not exactly a shy thing. Attack him.

[And it does, she brushes away a few more strands of hair before cutting off the feed.]

Just kidding. Ami doesn't mind at all; it's fun, and a rare opportunity, to do things like that with a friend.]

I'd be happy to come. We can't just leave the situation like this, after all. [There's a bit of humor in her voice and smile.]

Only if you have time, I know it's a little sudden.

It's fine. I have time. [More precisely, she'll make time.] Are you still living in the same place for now?

I'm not. I'm in Radiant Gardens now. [And she gives her the address.]

Ah! I've wanted to visit there anyway! It will be a good reason to come. I'll be there shortly.

[After a polite goodbye, Ami signs off the feed, and heads down to the docks. There isn't a long wait before the next ship, so she settles in with a book until it's time.

Once she's on board, she finds a place to relax, and focuses her mind on the prospect of time with a friend, on the excitement of the new world appeared recently and the plans to explore it. Happy thoughts.]

I don't know. There's a lot of weird creatures running around. It's a pet to the owner of this house.

You got two jobs already?

I did. They're not exactly what I would want but I need the money. This is what it's like to have to work, I guess.

I guess that's true. I have that same feeling before I came here.

[Sometimes working for Break wasn't exactly something he wanted.]

What did you do before you came here?

I worked under a man called Break. He...if you knew him you'd know why I wasn't fond of this job, but I had no choice.

So you were forced to work? [She shifts.]

Ah, sort of. Not like slaves would be worked, but he had information that me and Alice needed at the time, though I guess after a while... I'm not sure if I disliked the job or not.

That still sounds like a pain to me.

Ah, I guess it depends on the person. So, what are your jobs now?

I'm a waitress and I work for the king.

Oh, so you work for the king as well? Which world were you placed?

Halloween Town. [And. It's her favorite job.]

Really? That creepy place where a guy I know works.

Let me guess, you're talking about Undertaker? He's pretty charming. I like the place.

Really?! I find him to be rather creepy.

He's different. There's nothing wrong with being different.

[Barely getting a few steps inside before Griever lunges at his ankles, Leon watches her run around in circles about his feet for a moment before peeking in at Mai, hiding a smirk.]

She's becoming vicious. You're turning her against me now?

[She gave a small chuckle getting up from bed and crossing her arms.]

I've been waiting for you. Don't even think of taking off your boots or getting comfortable. I'm taking you out for dinner.

That so? [He looks quite surprised, but in an impressed sort of a way.] Sure getting used to the working lifestyle, huh? [It's strange, not being the one doing the treating for once, but he's pretty proud of Mai.] Alright-- I'm game if you insist.

I do. Give me a few minutes. [And she went back into her room, slammed the door but kept talking while she was getting changed.]

Don't get me wrong, I hate working. Dealing with people is such a pain. I never thought I would be a waitress, my parents would probably cry in their shame.

[While she's in the room, Leon scoops up Griever and moves to sit on the arm of the couch while he waits. He gives a short laugh.] Dealing with people is always the worst part of any job.

Independence is hard, but it's accomplishing. You gotta start somewhere. ...What do you think they had in mind for you?

My father is a very important noble. The Firelord himself appointed him as governor of 'New Ozai', conquered territory, so I can guess they expect me to stay put, get married with some noble's son, and do whatever they did with their lives.

I certainly wouldn't have to work.

[He frowns a little while he listens, idly ruffling Griever's fur. It doesn't sound like a very fulfilling lifestyle, but he doesn't want to say that.]

But it's nice to be able to say you earned your own living, right?

[She would agree. She's kind of trusted him enough to talk bad about things she should have no opinion over.]

It is. [And she walks out now, hair still loose since, well, she hasn't invested on a teacher.] Pick a place, I don't know this town very well.

[He observes she looks nice with her hair down, but he doesn't say that either. Just lets Griever go on and bounce on the couch.] What kind of food do you like?

[Good man. Keep compliments to yourself. Things are still awkward, you know.]

I don't care, I'll probably be eating only dessert. I'll let you choose.

[To put it lightly. Leon gives lousy back-handed compliments anyway. It probably wouldn't go over well regardless.]

Just dessert? You sure that'll be okay? [Er...] Not that it's any of my business what you eat. ...There's a diner a couple blocks down we can eat at. [Inexpensive but still tasty.]

I had a good lunch. [Liar. She hasn't been eating too much.] Lead the way.
