“Hell-lo, what do we have here?”

[The video feed records a very unusual angle. The communicator was aimed skyward, and it looks as if a pair of tiny feet are standing on top of it just barely visible. It’s about to get more bizarre. Something that looks like a giant albeit wavey-looking eye is the next thing the feed catches. It’s difficult to make out any of the person’s facial features]

A variety of dials..[Some mumbling to himself] .. This prominent rectangular area.. [More mutterings] Incredible. This doesn’t look like.. anything I’ve seen before. [ The voice sounds genuinely surprised but intrigued]

Hm- I wonder.. [ Pulls his magnifying glass out of the way, revealing the visage of a mouse] Just.. what is this contraption intended for?

[moar mice, yay! Good thing Rapunzel isn't frightened off that easy unless it's a sekret bunny and he can talk, which is another good sign! She wonders if he's from Mrs. Brisby's world...]

[Having regained his composure from the earlier interruption, he is less surprised when the communicator emits another voice. This one is feminine in natur-- it's not long before the screen fires to life. Now that WAS new.]

Will wonders never cease! [Tentatively he draws nearer and reaches out to lightly tap the screen with one finger]

You must forgive me dear Lady.. I have never encountered such a .. thing before. [He wasn't sure if this was some recorded audio or in real time.. so he acted as if it was in real time to cover all the possibilities] Whom might you be?

It's called a communicator, it lets you talk to people who also have communicators, this is a video feed. You can see and talk to me. They also have audio feeds, where you just talk to the person.

It's a little over-whelming, I'm sorry.

[It's a fortunate thing that she had really, Basil hadn't managed to run into a moogle yet. Hence this communicator he was currently using being so massive.. it didn't belong to him]

We are able to record sound in my-- [Time. place, era?] in England however they are kept strictly to records and the phonograph I'm afraid. This ability to capture images as well.. most outstanding!

[He gets a little carried away with examining the communicator further before coming back to the screen and introducing himself] Rapunzel? Did you say? And I am Basil of Baker Street.

Are-- you in the habit of speaking to creatures outside of your species? [That is also bizarre]

It takes a bit of getting used to, having people randomly pop up on a little screen, but it is kind of amazing.

[laughs] Well... a little more so recently? There seems to be a lot of talking animals around here.

I suppose the same could be said for any new development or invention. They all take some getting used to.

[Basil was already thinking of all the uses this sort of technology could have in his own field.]

Are there really? Most of the inhabitants I've encountered are human-- save for that one offensive fellow with the quaff of flames. [He's not sure what Hades is..]
