[The heartless have been getting to quite a few people lately. It's hard to tell at first whether Ami is one of them. She's inside, seated at a small table and playing chess against herself. Masters of the game would note the arrangement of the board as a very famous end game maneuver. She's testing it again, noting its weaknesses and the ways to defend against it.

It's keeping her mind off the shadows, and the things that always seem to not-quite-be-there when she looks. It's keeping her mind off the doubts, the worries, the insecurities. But there's very little of her usual gentle smile despite the seeming calm. She has a perhaps not-so-incongruous question.]

What are the things you do to relax and unwind your mind?

Art for art's sake, or in this case, science.

I'd like an opportunity to work together with you sometime. I think we could put our minds to the research and learn a great deal.

But isn't there a limit to what we know about this place already.

Then we should try to break that limit, don't you think? Otherwise, we'll never reach the goals we truly wish for.

I guess you can be right, since I doubt people have thought of the scientific method.

Then doing so will start with us.

That is correct. Though as to what to experiment on first is a completely different question.

The most important thing of all here is to find the way to restore our worlds. The king may have his reasons for not sharing that with us, but I don't agree and I won't accept that. I want to research it on my own.

But what exactly is it you want to research. you won't be able to find a way without at least a starting point.

That's why I went to investigate the new world that was brought forth.

What world is that?

I'm not certain what everyone is calling it, but it was a house, only with a lot of toys in the boy's room who lived there.

Some of the worlds are stranger. One is underwater. Another is a savanna. There are even some devoted to different holidays.

[Well he knew about the holidays one.]

I knew about the holiday one as I've gone there myself on at least one occasion.
