Optimism goes a long way, but blindly. You'd be surprise how far despair can take a person as well. It's a wonderful motivator.

[Another laugh.] That's supposing we all have hearts to lose to begin wtih.

Quite the good question. Perhaps whatever it is that stands as a substitute in those beings, the place that their emotions reside. Hmm! [A shrug of his shoulders.] Difficult to say!
