◎ 005 ◎ Qui-Gon Jinn : Video / Radiant Gardens

[Normally it was Obi-Wan who left to explore but this time it was Qui-Gon who had ventured off without his apprentice or his trustworthy furret. The feed came on to a display of blue rock and dark; almost purple, soil. His dark boots made an even crunching sound, he did not have any intentions to conceal his presence, it was quite the opposite. He was making his way through the fissures of Radiant Garden when he came across a crack in the mound of earth before him. He paused, ever so briefly before walking int.]

For as long as time has existed, the conflict between light and dark has always been present to guide and distortion our perceptions. It is this battle between the balances that has bred war and injustice just as easily as it has created hero's and peace. In order to understand one we must scrutinize the other. There is no light without dark and therefore we must be careful to perceive what distortions the imbalance is creating.

[He eventually moved out of the tunnel and came across the sink in land where the destroyed castle bearing heartless marks along it's still-standing walls rested silent and ominous. Guess who was on his way to the belly of the beast. He inhaled slowly, hand at his sides.]

Too many have decided to tread on this journey but I fear they're minds are not ready. The path of darkness leads to many roads and none are ever as promising as they cloak themselves to be. It clouds everything even the paths of light. That being said, I cannot train everyone to sense these things so I have decided to join you. To help.

I will be the guiding light. I will venture into darkness, the force will guide me.

Still, with all the training in the world, taking on such a daunting task alone...

Perhaps so, but who then will protect you?

So are you able to use this "light"? I think you're just afraid of darkness. I keep hearing it's so bad, but it can't be, it's just another element.

Do you even have a plan for when you get there?

Darkness is a constant, whatever shape it decides to manifest itself in is strictly free of what it's potential could be. You do not gain strength from 'light' or 'dark', you gain it with what decisions you make, what experiences you receive.

You clearly prove my point: I may not know what is in store for me but I respect and understand what is set down before me.

You're still shunning the dark, so you must favor one above the over. Which is fine, but you don't understand it as well as you could.

You make it sound like fate.

You do not understand the Jedi ways and I ask you to hold your assumptions. We do not shun, we believe that there must always be a balance. Just as there is light we cannot smother the dark. It's impossible. Were the balance to tip to one side, even if it were the light, the catastrophe's would be one in the same because even those with good intentions may easily grow cold.

The way I have perceived it myself, and to the dismay of many of my fellow masters who strongly disagree, good and evil is not a factor of 'light' or 'dark'. That which we assume to be the 'light' and 'dark' are but paths in which we choose to influence our decisions that inherently make us 'good' or 'evil'. We all have the ability to destroy the world just as equally as we have the ability to save it. He who offers himself down a dark path could easily be a savior, but it's what lies underneath that truly defines a character. In this case we define someone by what steps you take towards a similar action. Take the decision of genocide by a leader to release their people from the tyranny of a specific culture against their world. He did a good deed and saved his people from being captured and enslaved, but in the process he tainted his own spirit by slaughtering an entire race. Who are we to place such harsh judgments regardless of what oppressions they have brought on to us. Violence begets violence, death only brings death, and inevitably the oppressed become the oppressors if you're not careful how approach a situation. There's nothing 'good' about bringing upon another terrible phase.

And now, in our case, a young man decides he wants to save the world and instead of looking for another way and understanding his enemy, he decides to use them. But to what cost? If he wishes to control an army of unstoppable heartless then he must keep in mind the very nature of his minion: they seek to consume hearts. Does darkness attack darkness? And what of the people he is trying to save, does his army share the same emotions as he, after all they only seek to consume. And what are the consequences for oneself. Does the young man have to change in order to be able to wield such false power, for the power will never inherently be his but the things he commands. Does that still make them who they once were? The day those questions are answered is the day I will have a solid opinion on where I stand. I only wish to answer them for those who cannot do it themselves, who have either strayed too deep without question or to those who fear exploring the unknown.
