[The feed comes on to show Sephiroth currently out on the streets of Port Royal, at first he doesn't say anything to the device yet despite turning the feed. Instead his attention is on taking down the strange ducks floating in the street and yelling for what people are huddled on the streets to get out of the street and inside. He's already seen just what the fowl is capable of once and has no desire to see more citizens fall to it, even if releasing them is a relatively simple matter of destroying the ducks around them.

Fortunately he is capable of taking them out at a distance and what few attempt to get in close are either taken down anyway by him or by the espeon standing just behind him but the lavender feline is careful to remain out from underfoot as he moves in taking down the dark ducks.

It's actually a good minute, nearly two before he finally turns his attention to the camera.]

These ducks are easily killed for those able to do so at range, but be cautious. They appear to render those they touch comatose--locked into a tortured sleep until the one that is the direct cause of it is slain.

[Sailor Mercury here. Her face is serious after seeing several illusions already.]

Thank you for that information, sir. Have you noticed any particular weaknesses of theirs? [Leave it to Mercury to be able to talk seriously about evil rubber duckies.]

[For once having a rather logical and rational mindset is a bonus instead of a hindrance for him. That and keen observation while fighting the menace.]

Distance is their main weakness it would appear. [He pauses to turn and lash out at a duck which has attempted to sneak close from the side, cutting the thing into two halves.]

I have noticed that they will attempt to distort the surroundings around them if threatened, but a rational approach with knowledge that whatever appears around them is fake also is helpful. They can only inflict harm I believe, if you allow them to fool your senses and get close enough to physically touch you.

[Sadly for her, one will catch her the next day. In better news, his advice will help her keep her cool and think it out.]

I understand. I assume once they're defeated, the spell is also broken? They can't harm others afterward?

That seems to be the case from my observations.

[She finally cracks a smile.]

It feels a little ridiculous to be planning to fight bath toys, doesn't it?

[It's only a moment of reprieve; her face becomes serious again.]

But if that's what the enemy is using, there's no choice.

[He's not encountered such bath toys before so humor of the situation is unfortunately lost on him but he gives the woman a short nod of agreement regardless.]

It's too bad. Toys like this have been used for research in my world. By releasing them in the ocean, for example, you can study the currents and flow by noting down where they come to shore.

I see. This isn't the first time in my experience that things which could be used in beneficial ways have been instead used to cause mayhem and terror among people. [And it likely won't be the last either, he wagers.]

Hades was angry over the ducks. Could it be...?

[Considering his experience with the Hades' cup, he really wouldn't put it past the God actually. Especially if he wanted to punish the cause of his ire and make everyone else's lives a living hell..considering his actions when Seifer had apparently gained Hades' ire.]

I think it could be considered valid possibility.

[The gods aren't exactly renowned for compassion when crossed.]

Still, we'd have to prove it.

Considering one has to destroy the ducks in order to force them to cease their activity, that will be a likely nigh impossible challenge. To link him to this activity, one would most likely have to force him to admit he altered the ducks he received, since otherwise he would possibly claim he merely tossed them out and someone else used them in an attempt to frame him.

Even if he said that, it could be true.

Yes. There's a good chance we might never actually know the person behind this unless they personally admit responsibility for it.

Everyone makes mistakes. Criminals are caught all the time.

Ducks?

[Here's a Riku who hasn't seen the ducks yet. Just a lot of mayhem. But if ducks are causing this, he'll take out as many as he has to.]

[Sephiroth notes the question, but holds off responding for the moment as he neatly separate's one of the duck's head from it's body. They've quit coming after him so much at the moment, so he's currently stalking the few that are left down so as to be certain he's cleared the menace from the streets of Port Royal.]

Indeed. Though these used to be toys before someone turned them into this menace, I believe.

[~~Impressive. He almost wants to be you when he grows up.~~ Toy ducks. Now that Sephiroth mentioned it, Riku could see a few ducks. Riku nods.] Taking them down will put things back to right?

[There's one now. Riku sends a dark firaga after it, charring the toy to ash.]

That appears to be the case, yes. Just don't allow them to make contact with you.

Well, that's certainly new.

Indeed. At least they're easily enough dispatched.

They are ducks, so I guess I understand that they can be destroyed easily.

[There is a pause before Setsuna answers.]

Keep your wits about you and your distance from them and they should be easily dealt with.

All of this is being caused by ducks?

That appears to be the case, yes.

[Sigh. ]

It must be some kind of magic then?

Quite possibly. I've seen them attempt to alter the surroundings around them and cause people to drop into what appears to be a tortured form of slumber until the creature responsible for it is slain.

That does explain all of the strange illusions people are having today. But, if the duck is destroyed the person is set free? I will make sure to do that.

Rubber... ducks?

[That's what's been causing all of this nonsense? Rubber... Ducks? Ciel presses a few fingers to his forehead. This is so idiotic]

Correct. Don't allow them to make contact with you, if you see one it needs destroyed without it coming into contact.

It's a little too late for the warning, I'm afraid....

[He's already had his little humiliating nightmare]
