[Padmé has listened to every word the moogles have told her, and it's long after they've left that she finally turns to the oddly-shaped communicator. She's wounded, but she turned down the creatures' offers of help. Whatever pain these wounds might cause her hasn't registered to her; a very large part of her is numb.

She knows the dangers of making a public call for help; if the bounty hunter that's after her made it here as well, she's little more than a sitting target for him without Anakin. But if she doesn't do something, her fears will never be put to rest--or confirmed.

So when she turns on the communicator, she's wearing a grim expression.]

I am Padmé Amidala, a Senator representing the thirty-sixth regional state space of the Galactic Senate. The planet I was on-- [she pauses for hardly a beat, but she can't bring herself to say its name;] --met with misfortune. Though it seems this isn't uncommon, it's imperative that I'm contacted by any Jedi that might have survived.

[She won't name Anakin by name; she can't even attempt it.]

If there are any others that can hear me... Please, tell me what I can do to return that world, and any others in the galaxy. I'd do anything to help them.

[She can only give a tight, grave nod about that. She's gathered the world is gone by now, no matter how she might wish to not believe as much.

It's still strange to meet people who do not yet know of the Jedi, but she sees no reason not to answer.]

The Jedi are a group dedicated to preserving peace across our galaxy. They're talented, selfless individuals. I owe them a lot.

Such a lofty ambition. [And they're fools for it.]

Perhaps, but freedom and peace are worthy causes.

People are often too foolish to handle those and need to sacrifice the former for the later.

There's no point if people can't be free to enjoy it.

They may enjoy it within the boundaries set for them.

But freedom isn't about boundaries. Getting everyone involved, so that they're all represented and things go as they feel it should... That's how peace can best be obtained. Someday it will be achieved...

[He scoffs. He's seen kingdoms across the ages in his world, from the far distant past, to the far distant future. There was never peace. Peace is the fleeting dream of a fool.]

No two people want things to go the same way. Unless you are proposing to control their very thoughts, your goal will not be accomplished. [Mighty ray of sunshine, isn't he?]

[He is, but she's used to dealing with skeptics.]

Of course not. [She smiles gently.] But compromise can always be reached. I'll strive for this for as long as it takes.

Then you should hope to live for a very long time.

[She laughs.] That would be nice. Though with the right foundation, anything can be built. The Senate has lasted nearly a thousand years already. I'll work to make sure it lasts another.

And with this thousand year old Senate, you have peace in your realm?

For the most part. We have the Jedi to take care of small disputes that occur over the thousands of star systems, but there's been no great war for hundreds of years.

[She's happy about that, but...]

It would be nice if it could last forever...

And these Jedi? Are they your army to keep people in line?

They're no army. We use them to negotiate amongst people; fighting is always the last resort.

[He scoffs.] What an idealist's world you lived in.
