Accidental Audio/Video; Adventure 01

[Without warning a voice comes onto the network, a bit distressed from the sound of it.]

Are you friend or foe? [There is the sound of steel being drawn and then the voice continues.]

Be quick about your answers, for I am in a dreadful need to make all possible haste back to where I was taken from if at all possible. If you are responsible for taking me from my liege's side when they have most need of me, I shall let you taste the steel of my blade and be made to despair that you have ever crossed a knight such as myself.

If you call yourself a friend, I beseech you to send me back to the Dawn Treader from which I came so that I might continue to aid the fighting on it against those dark creatures that threatened their majesties and her good crew.

[The audio feed cuts out shortly after that line is delivered and it's several minutes later before actual video footage comes on to show a mouse's face looking into the small camera he's holding in his paws; from his body language it's rather apparent he's aggrieved over something and after a moment he finally speaks.]

Those... moogles... surely they can't be right when they claim that Darkness has consumed and destroyed the land of Narnia? Aslan and the kings and queen of Narnia wouldn't have allowed such a thing to befall, I'm certain.

If there is anyone at all whom might know how I may return, I beseech you to tell me of it so I might return to where I am needed at the side of my liege and the others.

[A mouse...? And a very valiant one; Ami avoids the mistake of laughing. That courage and loyalty are more important than any size or even strength or power; she knows that by now.]

Please try to calm yourself. I'll explain as best I can.

[At least she didn't start off by calling him cute, or by stating the obvious that he was a mouse. She gets respect for that.]

It is hard to be calm when one's friends and comrades could still be in danger, but I shall try. Please do, madam.

I don't believe it's the end. They may still arrive here. Some of my friends arrived after I did, safe and sound. And I believe our worlds can be restored, too. [She's seen her own brought back from darkness before.]

I shall hope then for their safe arrival.

There must be a way to defeat this Darkness that was spoken of, I'm certain. Surely once it has met with its defeat, the worlds that it has taken will be restored.

That's what I also believe. Or at the very least, we can begin to work to restore them once the enemy is gone.

I shall be glad to lend you my aid in defeating this mutual enemy, milady.

[Once again, she doesn't laugh; any help is needed, or how will they succeed at all? Besides, she's used to relating to Luna; relating to animals as useful, viable members of the team isn't new.]

I am a Talking Mouse of the land of Narnia, their Chief actually. Just what might I ask are you? You don't look like a Son of Adam...

Do I look human? [Technically, he is human. He was born one. He's just... sort of been through a lot of dark magic and some demonic rites and they've had a visual impact on him.]

[Now that... is interesting. Most see his ears, his red eyes, and his less than human skin color and just assume he's something else. But this rodent has remarked solely on his ears.

Ah. So what you mean to say is that you have no reason to return to your world, since the only other person there connected to you is already with you here. Does she not wish to return either?

[He hasn't actually asked.] Why should she? Our home is in ruins, our kingdom is no more. There is nothing but a village of survivors left.

She might desire to aid those survivors perhaps? She should at least be asked if she'd rather live here or back on the world you two were born on. Tis only fair, I would think, to the lady to give her the choice instead of deciding it for her.

I did not decide it for her. We simply have not discussed it. [Of course, now he's thinking about it. Would she want to return to that place? The Kingdom of Zeal is gone and now there is simply a cold, barren wasteland.

He sees no reason to return, so he doesn't see why she would wish to. But maybe...]

[He is just having trouble even imagining for a moment that this Darkness somehow managed to defeat Aslan and the others, thus he refuses to actually think of Narnia as destroyed... more like captured or under siege. Similar to that one endless Winter he's heard stories about, and the Witch.]

I know, madam. Still, it is hard to believe that such events could happen given certain people I know, thus my previous exclamation of disbelief.

[Oh! A fellow mouse. I sounds so violent though it does give Mrs. Brisby a moments pause before she decides to speak. ]

I hope you didn’t hurt the moogle. They really are only trying to help.

[Another mouse, though she seems a bit smaller than the other Talking mice he rules back in Narnia.]

Fear not, milady. I didn't harm the creature once it assured me it was a friend and only desired to help me.

[He'd give you a small bow but it's sort of hard to do while holding the device in ones paws.] My name is Reepicheep, milady. Might I have the honor of your name?

[A good deal smaller, being actual field mouse size instead of being large enough to match swords with a human. ]

I’m Mrs. Brisby.
[She hesitates… something she wants to ask on the tip of her tongue, before she finally finds the courage to ask it. ]
Are… are you one of the animals that was able to escape from NIMH?

I just arrived here myself and I'd been told the exact whack thing about my world being taken by Darkness. Sounds a little crazy to me.

... whack thing, miss? [You'll have to forgive the question, the term is not one he's familiar with.]

A fellow knight? [ croak ] Yours is a welcome sight.

[Even if this one is, like Frog, fairly... unconventional. Still, in a place where mice are kings, he's learning not to be surprised by these things any more.]

I am sorry, but it is likely both they and your world are lost. The darkness takes what it pleases, queens, kings, and lesser men alike.

That is most distressing news... what can you tell me of it? I've faced a darkness before but it was nothing like the one I faced before my arrival here.

A world consumed by the Darkness won't be accessible anymore. The people in it are lost; others might have survived.
