[Hotaru removed the bow she had been wearing around her neck and she ran her hand over the spot. The bite mark was almost entirely gone now but she still felt like hiding the place it had been from everyone.
Why had that happened? What did it mean? Everything was still so confusing even weeks later.
Maybe that was why the heartless had been able to get so close to her without her realizing it. The creature slithered over the ground creeping ever nearer to the bed the young girl was sitting on. This wonderful sadness was something the heartless wanted for itself! ]

I don’t think I will be going out today.

[No, staying here in this dark room surrounded by the pale light of a single lamp fit her mood a little better. ]

There really is no point to it anyway.

I remember. It was like that before I met Chibi-Usa.

[Meeting a friend like her had brightened her world considerably. ]

But then you met her, right? And it was like the sun came in and broke up the darkness!

It was like that! I finally had a friend and... how could I have forgotten that?

[She smiles; she knows what Hotaru feels.] Because sometimes things aren't going so well, and it's difficult to remember the good times. But they always exist, and they're never too far from you that you can't get them back - you just have to immerse yourself in that memory and lose yourself in the joy you had when it was happening.

[It does begin to work. Remembering happy times does make it much harder for the heartless to find a weakness to exploit. ]

I'll try to remember that. Maybe if I think about those things some more I will feel better.

[The heartless in the background begins to retreat. If this kid if going to cheer up he will need to look for a new victim. ]

It will make you smile, at least. And even if things aren't perfect, they're always better when you smile.

It's okay - sometimes it can be hard to remember. [She's smiling herself, too, because it's good to see someone overcoming adversity.] You just have to remember, it's always darkest just before the dawn.
