☠ CLAUSTROPHOBIA :: тєηтαтινєℓу тяαρт | video → action: opeɴ тo αll.
I am sure that many of you have noticed the strange effects the mysterious fog is having on everyone... I believe it best to stay inside and, if possible, away from all doors and windows. [ for what sebastian hopes are obvious reasons. ] If you happen to be in Traverse Town or by my Bakery please let me know immediately. I have created something of a safe haven in its basement and there is still plenty of room left. [ looks aside as his tone drops to that of a whisper. ] ...let's hope it leaves as swiftly as it came.
( ooc | ** ammended ** you can reply to the feed as normal, but for the action bit i'd like you to assume that sebastian, or somebody else, has let your character inside and lead them into the basement. NO NEED TO REPLY TO THE INTRO BIT ANYMORE. from there you may do as you please. threadhop and threadjack to your heart's content. feel free to also post new comments ( with headings! ) about what you character is doing or what your character would like to do. think of this like a party log, ...just with the aforementioned tweak. )

Please do. I brought them for everyone. I get so frustrated being cooped up for too long. At least one can sore through an entire universe with imagination, right? [She beckoned to the cushions. There's plenty to go around!]
no subject
For now at least she had successfully hidden the book she was reading from him. ]
That is very kind of you. And si, we might not be able to fly like the birds yet but with a little imagination anything is possible!
[Wow, would you look at that castle! A page in the book Leonardo holds reveals a full color image of a glorious looking castle in Spain. ]
This photography thing is truly amazing. I will have to try it for myself some time.
no subject
For a long time, artists as talented as yourself were the ones who could immortalize visions. The photograph was technically first invented in 1827. And, about flying...
[She moved out of her cushion to grab a book.]
I'm not sure if I should show you, but I think it's something you would appreciate. [She settled right beside him holding on to another book.]
Aviation has reached such high levels of complexity. We've managed to break the sound barrier. Mankind has even traveled to the moon!
no subject
[But then again... ]
There are those ships here that can travel between the worlds. I have not seen one yet, but so many have mentioned them, they must be real. Who would have thought such a thing would even be possible.
[He leaned closer as if discussing some kind of great conspiracy. ]
I have observed the moon many times in the night sky. It is so unlike our Earth, would it be possible to just open the door of your craft and step out? I say this because it does not seem to have the...
[Searching for a word here... ]
...same atmosphere of the Earth.
And flight itself! That has always been a fascination of mine. Were humans actually able to master flight?
no subject
[And she stops for a moment, a finger over her lips trying to figure out how to word this.]
First of all, it's important to understand that the 'air' around us, the thing you feel in your nose and lungs when you inhale or when you fan your hand around, is actually composed of many little- [It's so difficult trying to word this in simple words!] components. They're so small we can't see them but you can easily feel them, and one particular component it includes is very essential for our life. It allows us to breath. What makes Earth's atmosphere depends on how big the earth is, how far away the warm center is from the surface, and how far away we are from the sun. The Earth is alive so to speak and the moon is not. It is too small and it has no center. When the astronauts, that's what you call a person who travels outside of the atmosphere, landed on the moon, they had to wear suits that allowed them to breath. They were also bouncing around because of the lack of gravity.
[Then she remembers Isaac Newton technically 'discovered' gravity.]
Umm... gravity is a type of... natural occurrence that keeps things attracted to the center of whatever body you're on.

[Leonardo holds the book he had over the stack it originally came from and lets go... allowing it to drop the inch or two back down on top of the stack.]
Gravity, you say? We had known about it forever of course... but some how never thought to give it a name.
And my theory about the little particles was right? I knew it had to be! How else would a bird be able to compress the air underneath its wings to maintain flight!
But, of course... I had tested this already. If I had been wrong then Ezio would never have been able to fly to the Palazzo Ducale.
[In his excitement Leonardo blurted that out with out thinking... but as soon as the words left his mouth he began to reconsider them. ]
UhHm... but you must tell me more about this.
[One nervous subject change back to the original topic. ]
They need special suits? So the moon is like water and we can not breathe it?
If it is lacking the atmosphere then they would need to carry air with them...
[Now how would they do that. ]
Since, unlike water, air can be compressed these astronauts of yours were able to place air into container and take it with them?
[Leonardo was learning so much! This was positively thrilling for him!]

Whatever secrets you have, mister Da Vinci, rest assured that they'll be safe with me. You were certainly on the right track in your observations! You're brilliant! There's nothing wrong with using science and discoveries for... things.
[She knew he wasn't a criminal but he wasn't necessarily looked kindly upon. At least now he didn't have to hide his brilliance!]
In regards to the moon, you're correct. The particular compound in air that we use to breath is called oxygen. Once technology advanced, scientists were able to separate the oxygen molecule and pack it in what in my era we consider 'oxygen tanks'. They're just these big cylinders. It's how exploration under water is possible as well.
no subject
Yes, of course... secrets like that, have I very many of them left?
[And now the book she had been so carefully hiding before was indicated with a sweep of his hand. When Hermione had moved to grab the other book, the title of the one she had been hiding had become uncovered enough to make out a few words. ]
I'm flattered that anyone would take the time to write a book about me when there are far more interesting topics.
Like this Oxygen! What a concept. That means there had to be other particles in the air that the oxygen needed to be taken out of? That must be a task. I never thought the air could be... strained like you would water in order to make it more pure. Though when put that way, it does make a certain sense.

History is very important, our predecessors opened the door for us to continue what they started. I suppose after I met you here, I just... had to re-read my history.
[It's sad, though. There's no much on your personal life.]
You inspire many people. We have to cherish our history.
no subject
Inspire, signorina, you really are too kind. If there is anything I can tell you about, please ask. I will do my best to explain what I know just as you have done for me.

How did you endure being do so different, you lived an age where being different or thinking differently was frowned upon and yet you managed it somehow. Where did you find the conviction?
[Because Hermione has a problem with that. She's brilliant, she has a strong will but she can't help but feel alone. Alone is a terrible feeling. This mist had made it worse.]
Was it family that kept you going? Perhaps friends?
no subject
I wouldn't say it was due through any great conviction of mine, it is just the way life is. Some people will understand and accept you while others... will use any chance they have to strike at you. You just have to realize this and then decide what it is you want to do. Would you give up doing something you love just to silence the people who do not care about you anyway? No, that is a waste.
[As if sensing that Leonardo reaches out to gently pat her hand. It can be very lonely at times. He has had his dark moments of loneliness as well. ]
Friends and family can be a great help. I probably would not have managed so much without their support. You make friends with the people who can accept you and try to avoid the ones who do not.
no subject
I don't like this mist.
no subject
Si, words are always easier to say than they are to act on.
[Leonardo debated it. Should he ask? Would prying even be appreciated? After a while just sitting in silence he decided to risk it. ]
Did something appear to you in the fog?
no subject
Reading is far more interesting. [She offered him the physics book.] Have fun with it.
no subject
[He does take the offered book. If she really didn't want to talk about it he wouldn't push for details... besides he could be pretty easily derailed, something she had done accidentally by handing him that book. ]
no subject
Maybe once the mist is gone, we can see those shops if you'd like.
no subject
Those shops? Which shops would those be?

Si, and all I have recently is leisure time. I suppose I will have to find a patron here. There was a moogle who approached me for a small job, I think I will accept it.
[Off track!]
But, I think I would enjoy shopping with a friend. I have none of those things here with me right now. I will also need a quill and some ink, are those difficult to find? I was told not everything from home would be easy to find here.
no subject
It would be my pleasure! If we can't find some quill's I can always share my own. I prefer them myself. Ink is easy to find.
no subject
[They could both use the distraction of a shopping trip after this. ]

May I ask how you got into painting? I know you were an apprentice for someone before you started your own work but did that experience grow your love for knowledge?
no subject
My father saw how much I enjoyed drawing and showed a few of my early works to Andrea Del Verrocchio, who would become my Maestro. Being an apprentice was how I came to painting and I imagine it sparked my curiosity as well. In Maestro Verrocchio's workshop we would often construct ingegni, complex theatrical devices for plays that would make the actors seem like they were flying or what ever else it was the play called for. And I was taught casting, how to build things, we were always trying out new techniques to see if they would work out better than the old ones.
So, I suppose the answer is yes. I don't know what I would have been doing with out that kind of experience.
