[The image is steady though somewhat off, showing a tiny girl with bright green hair at an odd, stilted angle. Even so, that's enough to capture the look of wide-eyed horror given at a moogle barely within the screen's range, not much smaller than the girl herself.]

What?!? No! My world can't be gone! You're lying!

[Of course the moogle is quick to protest.]

I'm not lying, kupo! It's the truth! You--

[The little girl stamps her foot, even as tears begin to form.]

Stop it! That doesn't make any sense! I told you, I don't have time for this! We have to go and rescue Rosa!

But--

[The video feed grows unsteady as she runs down the street. Once she's far enough away, the little girl plops down to catch her breath...and curls in on herself, sniffling.]

[A giant frog in armour, somewhat taller than Rydia, walks by. He hasn't noticed her yet -- or if he has, he's not paying her any mind. What do, bitty?]

[She glances up...and stops sniffling, snapped out of her fit by the sight of the giant frog. Someone must have been hit with a spell. Wiping at her cheeks, she tries to focus and send Esuna his way. Even as she doesn't want to deal with other people right now, it doesn't seem fair to leave him like that.]

[Frog freezes when he feels a spell being cast on him, a hand going to the hilt of the Masamune in expectation of an attack. But nothing happens, as the spell doesn't have any effect.

His eyes fall on the girl, and the warrior releases the grip on his sword. He lets out an indignant croak.]

What sorcery was that, young one?

[She pouts as it fails to work, then steps back.]

I cast Esuna. It was supposed to turn you back, but...you're still a frog.

So I am. Your spells will not work.

[He croaks again and peers at her curiously. He's never seen a child use magic before. And on closer inspection... she seems to have been crying. He's not at all good at dealing with children, but nor can he just ignore her.]

What troubles you? You cannot aid my green appearance, but mayhap I can aid you instead.

...you're really a frog?

[She peers at him just as curiously, but that question sinks in and she bites her lip.]

I just got here and this moogle-thing said that my world is gone, but he must be lying....

[The question goes unanswered. He merely shakes his head solemnly.]

The news will grieve you further, but all the moogle said is true. I myself arrived in this realm not twoscore days ago, having lost my own world. They have been taken by darkness.

But....

[Lip wobble.]

I have to find Rosa! Golbez kidnapped her and she'll need rescuing! I promised to help!

Golbez? [He looks startled. More the fool him for giving a man with such a dark appearance the benefit of the doubt.] Is this Golbez a man concealed in dark armour and cloak?

[She nods, eyes widening.]

He's here?!?

He is, but he was accompanied by no one by the name of Rosa. [A thoughtful croak as he thinks back to their conversation.] I spoke with him only briefly, but he was seeking his brother. I assumed at the time he meant no harm to anyone.

His brother? I didn't know he had one. But if he's anything like Golbez, I hope he hasn't here, too....

I do not know if he is. You'd best exercise caution.

[She straightens, trying to look tougher than she feels. The redness around her eyes probably doesn't help.]

It's not me I'm worried about. It's Rosa. He'll want to take her again.

[Again, Frog just shakes his head by way of answer. Chances are this Rosa person isn't even here, but lost in her world's destruction. Still, he holds his tongue; that's not going to be of much comfort to a little girl who obviously cares about her.]

You should be worried for yourself -- there are dark creatures here that will attack you if they find you. Can you fight?

Uh-huh. I know Fire and Blizzard and Thunder and some other spells. What are the dark creatures weak to?

[This reminds her that she should have asked Rosa to teach her Libra. Oops.]

They come in many forms, and thus their weaknesses vary, or they may have no weaknesses at all.

[Not even the Masamune is as effective as Frog would like. The rumours must be true after all -- that there's only one weapon that can truly defeat Heartless.]

Tell me, how is it you're so skilled in magic? For someone to wield multiple elements is a rare thing on my world.

[She straightens, looking proud.]

I'm a Summoner! It's my people's birthright. Mother said we're 'naturally attuned' to magic.

[Magus would be interested in that, he supposes, but unfortunately -- or fortunately -- he isn't here.]

I see. And you can cast healing magic as well, as with the spell you used on me? You've a talent, for one so young.

[She smiles, pleased at that.]

I have to learn a lot, so I can defeat Eidolons and summon them.

[A smile is better than crying, at least. She must be a brave little child.]

What is an Eidolon? We've none of those on my world, nor summoners.

[Rydia stares for a moment, surprised that there's someone who doesn't know about them. Then again, she'd never met a large talking frog before.]

They're beings Summoners call in battle, to help them. Some are small, like Whyt, while others are big, like my mother's dragon was....

[Frog looks dubious. He doesn't like to rely on anything but his own strength in battle.] They seem akin to Fiends, from your telling. What if they turned on their caller?

[She shakes her head.]

They don't. We have to earn their trust, and risk ourselves just as much as they do. If they die...so do we.

[You know what, she'll just show him. The little girl concentrates for a moment, then summons forth Whyt.]

Whyt, say hello.

[The white creature, who's a bit shorter than the little girl, squeaks and waves. Least threatening summon ever.]

[Least threatening, but it still takes all of Frog's self-control not to draw his sword out of reflex when Whyt appears so suddenly.]

And you... battle with this? [He looks from Whyt to Rydia with a croak of surprise. Not that he's one to talk, being a sword-wielding frog, but still.]
