[The camera turns on to show a man in his early twenties with long, blond hair, glasses, and a concerned expression. He stares intently at the screen for a moment to be sure that the camera is on before he starts speaking in a deep, soft voice.]

Ritsuka, are you here? Are you injured? Call to me and I'll find you.

Yes, he is somewhere, but I don't know where exactly.

[He looks at her through the camera carefully. Yuiko does not have the look of someone who was recently engulfed in mysterious darkness and thrown into a strange place. In fact, all things considered, she looks fairly comfortable. As do all of the other people here. He takes a guess.]

How long have you and Ritsuka been here?

We've been here for about two months, maybe more.

[He stares, face blank in utter incomprehension.]

[He shakes his head. If Yuiko remembers that they have been here for two months, then they have been here for two months. Without him. The cloud of darkness transported him to a new place; who says that it did not transport him to a new time, as well?]

I remember talking to Yayoi-kun about curry. I was at school and we had been talking about a trip we were to go on.

Did Ritsuka come here at the same time that you did?

Around about the same time, yes. It was about a few days after I arrived that I found him.

[He sighs.]

[The feed shuts off. But then three minutes later, it is back on. Soubi is looking decidedly miffed.]

I'm sorry, Yuiko. I might be a bit late. The ships only run on smiles.

Oh! That's right, it's a little odd, but I find them fun since it runs on smiles.

Do you want me to come help?

No, I'll arrive shortly.

[In the background there is the cheery yelling of a conductor, and a pained smile tugs at Soubi's mouth. It looks as if smiling is just about the last thing he wants to do; his eyes are hard as flint. But Soubi knows better than to let his own feelings get in the way of Ritsuka and his friends.]

I can come and do it, it would be easier, right?

[But then the camera jars a bit and Soubi immediately stops smiling.]

Never mind. We are here.

Oh! Okay.

[And in about two more minutes, Soubi sees Yuiko. He waves, smiling.]

Yuiko-chan, there you are!

Oops, nearly lost it.

Hello! Did you manage to find Ritsuka-kun?

Yes, and he explained the situation to me. Are people at the school here kind to you?

Yes, they have, but I was told not to let them get me down.

[He frowns.]

Do they say unkind things to you?
