Does anyone know how long one should really cook meat?

I've tried to cook it at various times, but I've either burnt it to a crisp or it's too raw. I've never actually learnt how to cook, so I'm only going by guessing, so any help I would be grateful for.

Uhhh... Hey, quick question for everyone...

I think... I may have been booted out of the room they provided me when I first got here. I went to go open the door, but uhh... I think the locks have changed?

I mean... Not that I couldn't pick the lock, but a little note would have sufficed...

So, my question... Anyone got any bright ideas on where to set up camp?
